Committees

Chapter Committee on Nominations and Leadership Identification (CCNLI)

The CCNLI is responsible for annually developing of a slate of candidates for available positions on the Board of Directors and the Delegate Assembly, making recommendations for National committees activities, and developing a leadership roster for Presidential appointments. Social Workers ARE Leaders!


Chapter Ethics Committee (CEC)

The NASW-MI Chapter Ethics Committee (CEC) reviews and resolves complaints of alleged violations of the NASW Code of Ethics by chapter members. The CEC consists of 9-12 volunteer members who serve three-year terms. Requirements for membership are five years’ experience in the field, full licensure, and an active NASW membership. Executive Committee

The Executive Committee is empowered by the Board to act as its agent between board meetings. Except in an emergency, the Executive Committee will not change actions previously taken by the Board. The Executive Committee must report its activities and actions to the Board at regular scheduled Board meetings or special session Board meetings. The Executive Committee consists of the officers, president-elect as an ex-officio non-voting member and an additional 2 Board members to be elected by the Board members.

Between Board meetings, the Executive Committee has the powers of the Board of Directors to address critical or time sensitive issues or to complete specific directions established by the Board within the general policies, program, and budget established by the Board, except that decisions regarding the employment status of the Executive Director are reserved for the full board.


Legislative and Social Policy Committee (LSP)

3rd Friday of the month, 12:00pm - 1:00pm

The Chapter’s Legislative & Social Policy (LSP) Committee plays a vital role in shaping and advancing the Chapter’s legislative advocacy agenda. This Committee evaluates social and legislative issues, recommends positions on key legislation, and educates members on matters that impact social workers and the communities we serve. LGBTQ+ Social Work Committee

1st Tuesday of the month from 12:00pm - 1:00pm

The LGBTQ+ Committee aims to be a safe, brave and supportive space for LGBTQ+ identifying social workers and their allies. This will be a space for community advocacy, discussion of LGBTQ+ social justice initiatives, and education opportunities for different subsets of the queer and trans and gender diverse/nonconforming community. Michigan Political Action for Candidate Election (M-PACE) Committee

2nd Thursday of every other month from 12:00pm - 1:00pm

M-PACE (Michigan Political Action for Candidate Election) is the political fundraising and campaigning arm of NASW-MI. Through M-PACE, we work to engage social workers in political action, builds relationships between social workers and soon-to-be elected officials, and more. Social Justice and Anti-Racism Committee

2nd Tuesdays in February, May, August, and November from 5:30pm - 7:00pm

The NASW-Michigan Chapter is committed to being an anti-racist organization. The goal of the Social Justice and Anti-Racism Committee is to deconstruct, disrupt, and dismantle racism within the social work profession in Michigan. Social Work Working Conditions and Workforce Committee

4th Thursday of the month from 12:00pm - 1:00pm

We recognize that many social workers look to NASW for signals about what forms of advocacy are okay to participate in. This committee serves as a strong signal that we support social workers organizing their workplaces.
