Welcome, Social Workers!
The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) is the largest membership organization of professional social workers in the world, with 115,000 members. NASW works to enhance the professional growth and development of its members, to create and maintain professional standards, and to advance sound social policies. NASW-Michigan aims to support, promote and advocate for professional social work practice, practitioners and the social work profession, and to improve the quality of life for the people of Michigan.
Updates
NASW-Michigan is working hard to increase social workers in leadership positions across the state, expand and fund paid social work internships, and advocate for necessary changes to the Michigan social work licensure process and exam. We are also researching best practices in social work supervision across the country as well as options for license portability and expanding reciprocity. We are prioritizing social work workforce development and improving working conditions for social workers and have launched a new committee to focus on this critical advocacy work.
We are committed to ensuring our policies and practices reflect a commitment to anti-racist practices and racial justice. We are prioritizing advocacy efforts around ending gun violence, abortion access and reproductive justice, health equity and access, and expanding civil rights. We are also working to expand programming and have provided more than 100 free continuing education events in the last year while also increasing regional programming and launching the National Social Work Student Series.
