To be eligible for social work CE approval in Michigan, a course MUST meet the conditions of at least one of the below topic areas. Social work practice, knowledge, and skillsCourse is characterized by presentation of either THEORETICAL FOUNDATION FOR SKILLS OR PRACTICE WISDOM with individuals, families, and groups without demonstration or assessment. Social work research, program evaluation, or practice evaluationCourse is characterized by presentation of practical skills in THEORETICAL FOUNDATION FOR SKILLS OR PRACTICE WISDOM of research, program evaluation, or practice evaluation without demonstration or assessment. Social work agency management or administrationCourse is characterized by presentation of practical skills in THEORETICAL FOUNDATION FOR SKILLS OR PRACTICE WISDOM in supervision, management, and administration without demonstration or assessment. Development, evaluation, or implementation of social policyCourse is characterized by presentation of practical skills in THEORETICAL FOUNDATION FOR SKILLS OR PRACTICE WISDOM in social policy analysis and/or implementation without demonstration or assessment. Current issues in clinical or macro social work practiceCourse is characterized by presentation of either THEORETICAL FOUNDATION FOR SKILLS OR PRACTICE WISDOM in clinical or macro practice social work practice without demonstration or assessment. Cultural competence and diversityCourse is characterized by presentation of social work CORE VALUES which in part are: Service, Social Justice, Dignity and Worth of the Person, Integrity, and Competence as they apply to diverse populations without demonstration or assessment. Social work ethics and standards of professional practiceCourse is characterized by explicit reflection on standards of professional practice in social work or related to social work ethics as defined by the NASW Code of Ethics. Pain, pain symptom management, and the psychology of painCourse is characterized by presentation of practical skills in THEORETICAL FOUNDATION FOR SKILLS OR PRACTICE WISDOM in AT LEAST ONE of behavioral, psychological, and biological methods for pain and pain system management without demonstration or assessment. Course must be addressing physical pain. Human traffickingTraining content must cover all of the following: (i) Understanding the types and venues of human trafficking in the United States. (ii) Identifying victims of human trafficking in health care settings. (iii) Identifying the warning signs of human trafficking in health care settings for adults and minors. Implicit biasThe implicit bias training must be related to reducing barriers and disparities in access to and delivery of healthcare services and must include one or more of the following topics: (i) Information on implicit bias, equitable access to healthcare, serving a diverse population, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and cultural sensitivity, (ii) Strategies to remedy the negative impact of implicit bias by recognizing and understanding how it impacts perception, judgment, and actions that may result in inequitable decision making, failure to effectively communicate, and result in barriers and disparities in the access to and delivery of healthcare services, (iii) The historical basis and present consequences of implicit biases based on an individual’s characteristics, or (iv) Discussion of current research on implicit bias in the access to and delivery of healthcare services. Training must include strategies to reduce disparities in access to and delivery of healthcare services and the administration of pre- and post-test implicit bias assessments.
