Updates from LARA regarding June 30th ASWB Exam Changes
Over the last several weeks NASW-Michigan has been hearing conflicting information regarding the upcoming (June 30th) changes regarding the ASWB exam and how that may impact those specifically graduating this spring. We were able to get clarification from LARA on some of the key questions we have been receiving: Does one need to have their exam scheduled and/or passed by June 30th? No. As long as someone has the LLBSW or LLMSW issued to them by June 30, 2021, they can register for the exam at any time before or after June 30th. The key is to have the limited license and not just in process. Once a limited license is issued, the licensee is automatically made eligible to schedule and take their exam.
If someone does not pass their exam before June 30th, will they need to wait until all 4,000 supervised work hours are complete to take it again? No. Once an individual is made initially eligible to take the exam (when one officially gets a limited license) they remain eligible as long as it takes to pass their required exam. Limited licensees will still need to follow the ASWB policy of waiting 90 days between taking the exam, but they do not need new eligibility to schedule.
If I go to schedule my exam and it says I do not have authorization, who do I contact? Limited licensed social workers who get this error message when scheduling their ASWB exam should email their name, license number, and licensure designation to BPLHelp@michigan.gov. |
