2024 MICHIGAN PRIMARY RUNDOWN

Hear ye! Hear ye! On August 6, Michiganders braved the rain to cast their ballots in the 2024 primary elections. With optimism and hopes for meaningful policy changes, Michigan’s residents made their voices heard.

U.S. SENATE AND HOUSE RESULTS

U.S. Senate: In the Senate race to replace retiring Debbie Stabenow, Rep. Elissa Slotkin won the Michigan Senate Democratic primary, with more than 75% of the vote. Former Rep. Mike Rogers took on three other primary opponents to win the Republican nomination.

U.S. House of Representatives: For the U.S. House, all 13 Michigan’s seats are open for the general election. All four of the national PACE candidates endorsed before the primary elections will move on to the General Election ballot:

Hillary Scholten, District 3

Debbie Dingell, District 6

Curtis Hertel, District 7

Rashida Tlaib, District 12

In other House races, incumbents Jack Bergman (District 1),  John Moolenaar (District 2), Bill Huizenga (District 4), Tim Walberg (District 5), Lisa McClain (District 9), John James (District 10), Haley Stevens (District 11), and Shri Thanedar (District 13) will face their opponents in the General Election.  Also, State Senator Kristen McDonald Rivet and Paul Junge won their primaries in District 8, fighting for Dan Kildee’s open seat.

CANDIDATE PRIORITIES FOR MICHIGAN

Key priorities for Rep. Scholten , Rep. Dingell , Rep. Tlaib , and Curtis Hertel  include:

  • Strengthening Michigan public schools
  • Securing Social Security and Medicare benefits for seniors
  • Keeping Michigan’s water safe and clean
  • Protecting voting rights.

LOCAL & STATE RACES

We are thrilled to announce that many M-PACE-endorsed candidates won their Primary elections, particularly at the local level! Among our endorsed candidates, several hold a BSW or MSW, including Alyshia Dyer for Washtenaw County Sheriff, Justin Hodge for Washtenaw County Commissioner District 5, and Lisa Coney  for Saginaw County Commissioner District 10.

All four M-PACE-endorsed candidates for the Michigan State House won their primaries and will advance to the General Election ballot:

Matt Koleszar , District 22
Nate Shannon , District 58
Penelope Tsernoglou , District 75
Christiana Reynolds , District 108

Unexpectedly, two Republican incumbents lost their primaries in Districts 50 and 107, ensuring that the winners of these seats in November—whether Democrat or Republican—will be new to the State House.
