NASW-Michigan Supports Student’s Right to Peacefully Protest The social work profession in the United States has its roots in the principles of social justice and community organizing. Student protest is a proud democratic tradition on our college campuses and over the last few weeks specifically we have seen social work students organize demonstrations at schools across our state.
NASW-Michigan reiterates our support of the first amendment rights of our students to organize. Students and faculty must be free to express their political opinions without fear of disproportionate punishment or censure.
We invite our social work student and faculty community to join us for an upcoming free webinar with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) on "Protesting and Campus Activism: What Social Work Students Should Know," from 6-7:30pm on Thursday, May 16. Click here to register.
