WE'RE HIRING! Social Work 2022 Election Field Organizer
Background: NASW-Michigan is working harder than ever to get social workers and our allies elected to the Michigan House, Senate, and the Governor's office. Our political action committee, the Michigan Political Action for Candidate Election (M-PACE) works to engage social workers in political action, builds relationships between social workers and soon-to-be elected officials, and helps get people elected to office who will support our policy agenda. For the 2022 statewide election, M-PACE is hiring a part-time field organizer to support get-out-the-vote (GOTV) efforts for select M-PACE endorsed candidates and help develop voting engagement messaging for the Michigan social work population.
Roles/Duties: - Plan, execute, and attend a statewide GOTV canvass even in early-mid October
- Create GOTV and social work voter engagement messaging leading up to the October event and November election
- Develop and maintain a strong and trusting relationship with the elected officials, candidates, volunteers, and partner organizations.
- Provide weekly updates on work to relevant staff
- Work with Executive Director, Director of Policy and Advocacy, and M-PACE Chairs to implement organizational goals across the state
Qualifications: - Current social work student or individual with a social work degree (BSW or MSW)
- Prior organizing experience preferred (paid, volunteer, or internship)
- Must be a go-getter and relationship-builder — this role is about organizing community support
- Capable of motivating and managing volunteers
- Strong writing and communication skills
- Must be comfortable in social media/digital space
- Flexibility and Adaptability
- Be organized and structured
- Possess a basic level understanding of the election timeline
Compensation: $20 per hour. This is a part-time remote position, running 10 hours per week between September 1 and November 10 (start and end dates are slightly flexible).
Interested candidates should have a strong understanding of NASW-Michigan’s policy agenda and the work of M-PACE.
