SUD Social Work Workforce Enhancement Training Series Returns for Its Second Year

Tuesday, January 18, 2022   (0 Comments)

The Michigan Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) has partnered with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) for the second year to provide Substance Use Disorder (SUD) workforce enhancement training to social workers across Michigan. The purpose of the NASW-Michigan SUD Workforce Enhancement Training Series is to provide SUD education and treatment strategies for social workers interested in working with or increasing knowledge in providing SUD services to underserved populations.

The NASW-Michigan SUD Workforce Enhancement Training Series has identified the need to expand the training series to include nine special populations in the year 2022. This training series is broken down into micro-courses, each hosted by subject matter experts. The nine special populations are; Elderly plus Dual Eligible (Medicaid & Medicare), HIV, LGBTQIA+, Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Adolescents & Young Adults, African American, Latinx, Indigenous/Native American, Justice-Involved, Pregnant & Parenting Women, and the Homeless population.

Each training will be delivered using the ASAM criteria as the evidenced based strategy. The ASAM criteria is the most widely used and comprehensive set of guidelines for placement, continued stay, transfer, or discharge of patients with addiction and co-occurring conditions. Each training will provide participants with the knowledge of ASAM continuum assessment and treatment knowledge. The learning objectives of each training comprise the six dimensions of the ASAM criteria. In addition to the six dimensions of the ASAM criteria, each training will also include a wellness piece that will educate and provide social work practitioners with the tools to practice healthy habits on a regular basis to attain better health and wellbeing.

The training is free to social workers who provide Medicaid SUD treatment and recovery services, and registration is on a first come first serve basis.
