I. MAJOR FUNCTIONS

 

Under the strategic direction of the Chapter Executive Director, this position will support the initiatives of the chapter as it pertains to membership and communications. The Director of Membership & Communication will lead the development and execution of the Chapter recruitment, retention, and communication strategies, and is the key liaison to Michigan NASW members. Ideal candidates will be creative thinkers, with the ability to develop and manage appropriate program content for publications, websites, and key audiences.


II. BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


General Responsibilities
  1. Perform a wide variety of administrative duties as required to support agency-wide daily operations of the NASW-Michigan Chapter
  2. Work closely with NASW-Michigan Executive Director to support program goals as needed
  3. Attend staff meetings, as assigned
  4. Support special projects with the Chapter, as assigned
  5. Participate in professional development opportunities, as assigned
  6. Work independently or with a designated team on special projects
  7. As needed, assist other NASW-Michigan staff members to ensure delivery of member benefits, high-quality events, and functional operations of the office.
  8. Maintain strong and positive relationships with constituents, community partners, and stakeholders
  9. Communicating with professional social workers, students, allied professionals, and/or members as needed, acting as a core representative of the NASW-Michigan Chapter, and being able to articulate member benefits, services, and opportunities
  10. Supervise social work student interns
  11. Occasional evening and weekend obligations
  12. Other duties as assigned by the Executive Director

   Essential Functions

Member Services, Recruitment & Retention

  1. Develop & implement an annual strategic member recruitment and retention plan
  2. Send welcome letters, renewal notices, and other correspondence
  3. Work closely with Regional Board Representatives to develop and hold regional meetings, workshops, and other community events across the state
  4. Continuously assess members’ needs and wants using formal and informal research methodologies
  5. Recommend and assist in the development of programming that meets member needs and wants
  6. Serve as primary contact for member concerns regarding their membership
  7. Participate in relevant state and national coalitions and collaborations
  8. Attend appropriate events as a representative of NASW-Michigan
    1. Travel will be required throughout the year
  9. Serve as a staff liaison to Chapter committees and work groups as assigned by the Executive Director
  10. Create and give presentations on various topics (e.g. licensure, benefits of membership) to various types of audiences (e.g. students, non-members, community organizations, faculty)

    Communications

  1. Develop and execute a cohesive communications strategy for the chapter
  2. Update and maintain the NASW-Michigan Chapter website and social media platforms
  3. Manage the email and written communication of the chapter with collaboration from other staff
  4. Assist in the creation of digital, video, audio and print content.
  5. Track engagement across various platforms and make data-driven decisions
  6. Work with current and prospective advertisers to ensure correct placement, development, and distribution of advertisements or blast emails

III. Objectives

  • Support the NASW-Michigan mission statement and the NASW Code of Ethics in all position functions.
  • Provide outstanding customer service when interacting with members, non-members, community partners, staff, Board members, and any other individuals, agencies, or businesses.
  • Stay focused on key social work principles of empowerment and client-centered (member-centered) services to ensure delivery of valuable member benefits.
  • Help maintain a healthy and positive work environment in the Chapter office where individuals are supported and productivity is increased using a team approach. 
  • Be a professional representative of NASW, NASW-Michigan, and the social work profession as a whole.

    IV. MINIMUM WORK REQUIREMENTS

    Knowledge

    • BSW or MSW degree required (Licensure preferred) 

    Preferred Experience

    • At least two years of professional experience in directing membership services, recruitment, and retention programs in an association or nonprofit
    • Experience using quantitative and qualitative research and data collection/analysis methodologies
    • Experience with strategic planning, budget development, and project planning, implementation, and evaluation
    • Working knowledge of learning management systems and membership databases is considered a plus.
    • Experience managing web platforms and digital content.

    Skills

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications (including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google Suite
    • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills
    • Exceptional customer service skills, including in person, over the phone, and via email communication
    • Working knowledge of content management systems, HTML coding, and digital graphics production
    • Familiarity with social media platforms and social media marketing
    • Ability to multi-task and prioritize projects
    • Strong writing, editing and proofreading abilities
    • Flexibility to meet changing deadlines

    Compensation & Application:

    This position may be performed either in-person (Lansing, MI) or remotely, but will require travel for chapter events and meetings. The salary range for this position is $45,000-$55,000 a year with a generous benefits package.
