In light of Governor Whitmer declaring a State of Emergency in Michigan due to COVID-19, as well as the many health risks involved with holding large events NASW-Michigan has cancelled Capitol Action Day.
At this time, the event will not be rescheduled for Spring, but we are considering options to hold a Capitol Action Day in the Fall.
-
For students who were planning to participate, we will be communicating directly with your universities.
-
For members who were planning to serve as mentors, we will be returning your registration fees to you.
While we regret that we have to cancel this event, we want to highlight ways you can still be engaged in legislative advocacy and training. Our legislative education and lobbying tools are available to you online and can be found here. You can also engage individually through M-PACE, our political action arm, whether through attending our monthly meetings remotely or in-person. We will also continue to share information on social workers in government and legislation that may be of interest to you and your clients via social media and our emails.
We hope you all continue to educate lawmakers about the social work profession, advocate for the issues you care about, stay educated on the elections, and continue to engage in advocacy efforts. We need your passion, energy, and empathy in policy and politics!
On a final note, we hope you all stay healthy during this time and please be sure to care for yourself as well as your community. For more updates and information regarding COVID-19, we recommend the CDC’s website, accessing the National Association of Social Workers Coronavirus resource list and for Michigan-related updates, the State of Michigan’s website directly addressing COVID-19.
