Medicaid Recoupment

NASW-MI is keenly aware that members in private practice are dealing with many problems related to the healthcare landscape such as recoupment, retroactive claim denials (clawbacks), reimbursement rates, and other changes.

NASW MI staff care about you, your problems, and has not and will not sit silently by as clinical social workers are treated so poorly. We are here to support and advocate for you and all social workers. We hear your concerns.

It was brought to our attention that many have been experiencing recoupment, the reduction of present or future medicaid payments, for the services they provided to clients with traditional medicaid from 2016 onward.

We understand that recoupment causes financial burden to social workers and create barriers to access for those in need of services.

If you have experienced recoupment of traditional medicaid services we are asking that you take a moment to fill out our survey so we can stay in-the-loop about which of our members were impacted by the current recoupment process.

We are consistently advocating for you through our various statewide coalitions, working groups, and in the State House through legislation and public policy. However, we need more feedback from you in order to create solutions for limitations on harmful recoupments processes and increase transparency.

If you have any additional questions or have any suggestions on other ways we can better our services or communications with you, please reach out to us at 517-487-1548 at any time.
