Greetings members and teammates,

I am honored to introduce myself as the NASW-Michigan Chapter Board President. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve with you in support of our communities. I hope to earn your confidence over the next two years through hard work and commitment to service. I would like to adopt engagement as the theme for what I hope to accomplish while in this role. In the spirit of engagement, my top three priorities are:

  • To enhance the value of your NASW membership. I plan to engage every board and committee member (with emphasis on regional representatives) to bring meaningful programs and services to all of our regions.
  • To maximize the collaboration of board and staff in all endeavors pertaining to the NASW mission. I plan to assertively address any barriers that prevent us from engaging with our members, our stakeholders, and ourselves.
  • To improve diversity that promotes excellent representation of all members and the issues that matter to them. I plan to increase membership engagement by working to represent social work issues that foster a desire to rally together and strengthen our collective voice.
I am excited to announce that we are already making big changes to support the above priorities. In an effort to provide transparency and inspire engagement, all of our board minutes will be published for members to view on the NASW-Michigan website. In the most recent published board minutes you will see that we spent much of our time working on our strategic plan and reviewing the data from our recent survey. As a result, I am happy to announce that we are bringing back the NASW-Michigan Annual Conference in 2020! You can expect to hear more about this as we progress with our planning, but start preparing now to attend, present, or exhibit with colleagues from across the state.

I will plan to provide regular updates via our website and our newsletter, so stay tuned. I believe that more than they have in a long time, our communities need us to engage in whatever ways we can. It is the spi
rit of social work to commit to action in support of positive social change. Please reach out to your NASW region representatives, our NASW staff, or myself to communicate any way we can support your efforts.

I get thanked for my military service all the time, but I want to thank each and every one of you for the underappreciated service that social workers commit to each and every day…Thank you!

Respectfully,
Kevin Holzinger, LMSW, ACSW
NASW-Michigan Board President
