Seeing Medicaid Clients? We Have Good News!

Just this October, the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Medical Services Administration issued a new policy that lifts the 20-visit cap on outpatient mental health visits for consumers with mild to moderate needs. This includes both Medicaid fee-for service and Medicaid health plan beneficiaries effective for dates of service on or after Oct. 1, 2017. This change is intended to improve access to care and support coordination of care for outpatient behavioral health services. NASW-Michigan has long argued that limiting the number of visits violates mental health parity laws. The change should equate to greater access to mental health treatment for low income families. Please let clients and other providers know of this increased benefit.
