It is with a very heavy heart that I announce that former NASW-Michigan Board President, Jacqueline “Jacquie” Steingold, has passed away.

Jacquie was a tremendous leader throughout our association for decades, with a strong passion for equality, justice, peace, as well as a huge love for the city of Detroit. Besides her roles on the NASW-Michigan Board of Directors, Jacquie was active in the NASW Foundation, the National Awards Committee, Political Action for Candidate Election (PACE), and served on the National Board of Directors for several years. In 2006, Jacquie received the NASW-Michigan Lifetime Achievement award.

Jacquie received her MSW degree from Wayne State University. Throughout her celebrated career she taught at Wayne State University,  worked at the Interim House, one of the first domestic violence shelters in Michigan, and was a founding member of the Child Care Coordinating Council of Detroit/Wayne County Inc. Additionally, Steingold served on the Michigan Women’s Forum, was the president of the Detroit National Organization for Women, was the executive director of the YWCA from 1989-93, and in 2011 was honored as the Woman of the Year by the Wyandotte-Downriver branch of the American Association of University Women.

Memorial services will be held at the Ira Kaufman Chapel on Wednesday, March 2, 2016 at 10:00am (18325 W Nine Mile, Southfield, MI 48075). Friends and guests are invited to come 30-40 minutes early to express their condolences and visit with the Jacquie’s family.

If you have memories or stories of Jacquie that you would like to share please send them to dbreijak@nasw-michigan.org.

Jacquie will be missed.

What a wonderful life-long social worker. She will be missed at Marygrove College.
