(EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University gymnastics team proved successful in the classroom once again in 2015 as 13 Eagles were named Scholastic All-Americans by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W) on Aug. 3. Out of all of the collegiate gymnastics teams, EMU ranked 10th in the nation with a 3.56 team grade point average.

The 13 Eagles named NACGC/W Scholastic All-Americans are: Anna Willette (Pylesville, Md.), Bianca Jordaan (Oakville, Ontario), Carrina Lo Bello (Oshawa, Ontario), Catie Conrad (Brighton, Mich.), Chantelle Loehner (Cary, Ill.), Kendall Valentin (Holmdel, N.J.), Kimberly Ebeyer (Greenwood, Ind.), Kirsten Gendron (Birch Run, Mich.), Natalie Gervais (Winnipeg, Manitoba), Nikki Paterson (Oakville, Ontario), Paulina Miller (Halifax, Nova Scotia), Rachel Slocum (Holly Springs, N.C.) and Sydney McEachern (Winnipeg, Manitoba).

"I am thrilled with our academic performance this past year," said Head Coach Jay Santos. "Being 10th in the country and having such a large number of Academic All-Americans really shows that our gymnasts put a priority on their academics and that all their hard work paid off.  I'm really proud of this team; we had many athletic accomplishments this past year and it's great to see the team match those achievements in the classroom."

A single Eagle was one of 91 gymnasts who finished with a 4.00 GPA.  Conrad, a 2016 sophomore, finished her first-year in Green and White with a 4.00 in business.  She also participated in all 11 meets, taking home 17 top-10 finishes on the season.

All five graduating seniors, Willette, Lo Bello, Loehner, Paterson and Miller finished their careers by being named scholastic All-Americans.  Willette had a 3.52 in speech language pathology, Lo Bello a 3.70 in speech language pathology, Loehner had a 3.96 in social work, Paterson a 3.95 in geography/tourism and Miller a 3.85 in biology.

Four other upperclassmen found themselves on the list, with 2016 senior Ebeyer, and 2016 juniors Gervais, Jordaan and Mc Eachern.  Ebeyer finished with a 3.50 in psychology, Gervais had a 3.95 in elementary education, Jordaan a 3.55 in psychology and McEachern a 3.97 in chemistry.

Rounding out the list were three more freshmen, Valentin, Gendron and Slocum.  Valentin had a 3.93 in biology, Gendron a 3.54 in biology and Slocum a 3.75 in nursing.

This wraps up a big 2015 season for the EMU gymnastics squad who finished with a 13-5 overall record, and saw Lo Bello and Willette compete at the NCAA regionals where they finished ninth and 14th respectively in the all-around.

The NACGC/W seeks to actively manage and develop the sport of women's gymnastics at the collegiate level and works with the NCAA and USA Gymnastics in order to provide the best possible experience for student-athletes.
