Dearborn, MI, January 1, 2015 – The Arab Community Center for Economic and Social Services (ACCESS) has been named the January 2015 Non-Profit of the Month by the National Association of Social Workers – Michigan Chapter.

The vision of ACCESS is to move Arab American communities across the nation toward integration and promote Arab American individuals to be active participants in American society. Their model is to be an Arab American organization that serves everyone, across all communities to provide individuals with the tools they need to gain independence and become contributing members of society. As a result, ACCESS serves as a leader for Arab American communities nationally.

Through a wide scope of almost 100 programs ACCESS provides a variety of culturally sensitive services for a uniquely diverse population of 70,000 people annually across Southeast Michigan addressing needs at an individual, community and national levels. The social services department focuses on assisting families facing financial issues with emergency services, immigration, job placement, social support and financial coaching. Employment and training programming serves individuals regionally with job preparedness and placement. The Youth and Education services provide educational programming year-round for students of all ages. ACCESS’ Community Health and Research Center is the largest and most comprehensive Arab community-based health and mental health center in North America. The one-of-a-kind Arab American National Museum sent exhibits that celebrated the history and contributions of Arab Americans to be viewed across the nation in 2014. Grants are provided through the Center for Arab American Philanthropy to organizations dedicated to making a difference, strengthening the impact of Arab-American giving. Finally, the National Network for Arab American Communities has worked to strengthen and amplify the voice of Arab Americans by launching the Campaign to Take On Hate, a platform for Arab Americans to speak out about institutional discrimination and inspire change.

“ACCESS is an exceptional nominee for the NASW-Michigan Non-Profit of the Month Award because they are the epitome of an exemplary non-profit organization that continues to inspire through their dedication to service for over 40 years.” -Jennifer Carver, ACCESS MSW social work intern.
