DETROIT - The November elections are just around the corner, and in an effort to boost the number of Michiganders who will head to the polls, a new online tool offers information on how to register to vote and cast a ballot.
Sharon Dolente, director of the Michigan Election Coalition, says the goal of the website is to give voters answers to critical questions before they head to the polls. She says sometimes it's the fear of the unknown that keeps voters away.
"It's really valuable and critical for voters to be thinking about voting now," she says. "The deadline for voter registration is October 6th, so we want to make sure folks know that's coming, and if you haven't registered, that is the deadline."
The Michigan Election Coalition website explains how residents can register to vote, how to find their polling place, and where to find a sample ballot.
Dolente says voting can and should be a simple civic duty, but people can be overwhelmed by the process. She says the website breaks down the voting process into three key steps.
"Register, meaning make sure you get that piece handled by October 6th. Plan, meaning figure out where you need to go, how you're going to get there, what time of day you're going to go - and then, vote."
Voters can also call the Coalition's hotline at 1-866-OUR-VOTE with any questions or concerns about the voting process.
