Irene Stuart, of Williamsburg, supervisor for Child Protective Services in the Department of Human Services in Grand Traverse was presented with the 2014 National Association of Social Workers- Michigan Chapter Lisa Putman Award for Excellence in Child Welfare.

Stuart has worked for Child Protective Services for over twelve years. In that time her colleagues have noted her to always go above and beyond what is expected, and is dedicated to providing healthy families for the children she works with. She is involved all throughout her community, not only through CPS. Stuart is the Department of Human Services representative to the local Infant Mental Health Consortium as well as being an active member of Baby Court.

One of Stuart’s colleagues Michael Pavlov stated “Irene brings passion, compassion, and a sense of urgency to her work…As a Protective Services worker and now Supervisor, she is forever aware that children’s lives are in the balance and approaches this work in that matter.”

Stuart is noted for her collaboration with all systems that take part in child welfare, including schools, law enforcement, and other human service agencies. Amanda Steele a Senior Attorney with the Grand Traverse County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office has worked with Stuart for sixteen years and says “As a Child Protective Services Specialist and as a supervisor, Irene ensures that the best interest of children is the number one goal on a case. She is also thoroughly committed to ensuring that not only she puts forth her best efforts but that those around her also put forth their best efforts to ensure this goal is achieved”.
