Gerald (Jerry) Manko was born in Germany and lived there during the Hitler years until 1939. Mr. Manko will tell of his family’s struggles under the Nazi regime and discusses the conditions that made it possible for Adolf Hitler and his party to gain power. Additionally, participants will hear about the controversial role played by the United States with regards to rescuing victims of the holocaust.
After telling his story, Mr. Manko will host a 15–20 minute question-and-answer session. 1 CE

Free for NASW Members, $15 for Non-Members Gerald Manko was born in Germany and lived there during the Hitler years until 1939. His family endured many hardships because of its Jewish faith and his father was incarcerated in the concentration camp Dachau. Mr. Manko will tell of his family’s struggles under the Nazi regime and discusses the conditions that made it possible for Adolf Hitler and his party to gain power in Germany. Additionally, participants will hear about the controversial role played by the United States with regards to rescuing victims of the holocaust. After telling his story, Mr. Manko will host a 15–20 minute question-and-answer period with the audience Mr. Manko immigrated to the United States in 1939 and is a graduate of Wayne State University. He recently retired after a long business career. Mr. Manko is a frequent speaker at the Holocaust Memorial Center in Farmington Hills and also speaks to high school/college classes as well as to professional groups.
