Legislative & Social Policy CommitteeVirtual | Monthly | 3rd Friday of the Month
The Chapter’s Legislative & Social Policy (LSP) Committee plays a vital role in shaping the Chapter’s stance on social and legislative matters. It is responsible for recommending Board positions on these issues and for developing the Chapter’s legislative advocacy agenda. The Committee is also tasked with educating and engaging our members in the legislative process, administrative actions, and ballot initiatives that directly impact social workers and the communities they serve. With NASW’s strong commitment to political action and advocacy, this Committee provides a critical avenue for the Chapter and its members to influence key political issues. The LSP Committee works in collaboration with the Chapter’s Work Groups to craft and advocate for State and Federal legislative and budgetary actions that benefit social workers and Michigan residents. It is composed of a diverse group of member social workers from fields including child welfare, gerontology, healthcare, corrections, mental health, education, community development, LGBTQ+ issues, public policy, domestic violence, and reproductive healthcare. The Committee serves as a resource for the Chapter’s staff and lobby firm, and it coordinates meetings between members and State legislators. Meetings are held on the third Friday of each month. For more information or to get involved, please contact Danielle Haskin at dhaskin.naswmi@socialworkers.orgPlease register for this meeting here.
