NASW-Michigan Work Groups

NASW-Michigan offers members the benefit of joining one of our special work groups. These work groups provide a great way for both new and experienced members of the profession to come together, network and discuss important topics related to a specific area of practice.

The following Chapter work groups include professionals who have an expertise or special interest around a specific issue. These are voluntary networking groups that share topical information and also follow legislative policy, write newsletter articles and work on special projects as needed. The groups are as follows:

  • Addictions & Recovery Work Group: Meetings are held on the 1st Wednesday of the month from 1:00-2:00PM. The Addictions & Recovery Work Group focuses on networking, resource development, practice issues and legislative/policy advocacy to advocate for issues around substance abuse and recovery. Chair: Jenn Strange, LMSW, CAADC - ms.jenn.strange@gmail.com
  • Aging/Gerontology Work Group: Meetings are held on the 1st Friday of the month from 1:00-3:00PM. Our areas of emphasis include increasing access to healthcare for marginalized populations- particularly women, minorities and LGBTQI persons, addressing policy and legislation that impacts the practice and delivery of medical care in the state of Michigan, and advocating for the needs and best interests of social workers and other practitioners working in Michigan's healthcare industry.
