NASW-Michigan invites you to participate in our first annual Capitol Action Day during Social Work Month in Lansing on March 21, 2018. (Including social work practitioners, retirees, faculty, BSW seniors and MSW 2nd year or advanced standing students)

Capitol Action Day will give social workers hands-on experience in the legislative process. Participants will learn about legislative advocacy and will talk directly to state legislators about relevant policy issues and the importance of social work.

The goal will be to raise legislators’ awareness about the social work profession, NASW, and the issues we tackle in the field every day.

Any NASW-Michigan members who are interested or experienced in state legislative and policyadvocacy are encouraged to attend. Social workers need to have a voice at the policy table and we need YOU to help do that!

There is no charge for members to attend unless you request CEUs ($60 for 3 CEs). Experience is preferred but not required. Non-student participants are expected to have the capacity to serve as role models, mentors, and team leaders for the day (you will be paired with 1-2 students). Everyone will be trained prior to the legislative visits. This will be an extraordinary learning experience for everyone, especially students who are considering policy advocacy as part of their career path.
