In this workshop, attendees will learn about the assessment and treatment of mental health disorders in children and adolescents, specifically the role of psychotropic medications in a comprehensive treatment plan, characteristics of psychotropic medications (effects and side effects) and the importance of building effective teams in providing quality care.
Learning Objectives:
1. Understand psychiatric assessment for mental health disorders
2. Understand characteristics of psychotropic medications including mechanisms of action, intended effects, common side effects and recommended monitoring
3. Increase capacity to engage psychiatry as part of broader treatment team
3 social work CEs will be offered for this workshop. $50 for NASW members ($35 for NASW student and retired members), $65 for non-members.
About the Presenter:
Jeanette M Scheid MD, PhD, is an associate professor of Psychiatry at Michigan State University. She is board certified in general and child and adolescent psychiatry. Dr. Scheid sees patients with a broad range of mental health concerns. She has particular interest in the systems of care and issues facing children and adolescents exposed to maltreatment.
