Description

People with substance use disorders smoke at rates twice that of the general population, in Michigan 39.5% (Michigan BRFFS). Because of the high incidence of smoking in this population they are suffering disproportionally more chronic disease and premature death than people in the general population. This presentation will give social workers the best practices for treating tobacco addiction including pharmacology and counseling to assist people addicted to tobacco to quit. 

 

Learning Objectives:

  1. Review the current data and literature on tobacco use in the United States
  2. Explore intersections of tobacco use and mental health and opportunities for social workers
  3. Explore resources in Michigan for assisting clients

Once registering and paying for the course you will get access to view the webinar (through a downloadable pdf file), as well as receive a link to complete the post test. Attendees need to answer 80% of the content questions correctly in order to receive credit for the course. All continuing education certificates will be emailed within 30 days of completion of the post test.

Continuing Education: 1 CE is available for social workers. $19 for NASW members, $29 for non-members.

 

NASW-Michigan is an approved provider with the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative, Provider Number MICEC-0017. This program is approved for 1.0 social work ethics continuing education clock hour. Social workers (under the new General Rules) can earn up to half (22.5) of the required 45 hours of continuing education through alternative learning methods, such as this webinar.
