Traverse City, MI. May, 2015 – BrickWays has been named the May 2015 Non-Profit of the Month by the National Association of Social Workers – Michigan Chapter. The award recognizes exemplary agencies throughout Michigan who perform outstanding community work and have shown a continued commitment to social justice.

“NASW-Michigan is proud to recognize the amazing and important work being done by BrickWays. They have been an invaluable resource for their community and a tireless advocate for the clients they serve” – Duane Breijak, NASW-Michigan Director of Member Services & Development.

The mission of Brickways is to enhance the lives of adults with disabilities by providing supportive housing options in a family atmosphere, by adapting to their individual needs, and by maximizing their potential in ways that integrate their lives with the community around them.

Since 1978 BrickWays has provided safe, affordable housing and independent living support for adults with developmental disabilities in the Grand Traverse area. BrickWays offers housing opportunities for up to 50 adults with developmental disabilities at any given time, and since 1978, when the Community Living Center opened its doors, they have helped over 200 clients live more independent and satisfying lives.

The Traverse Region Assisted Independent Living (TRAIL) Program provides staff members who work with consumers, both residents of the CLMC properties and those who rent or own their own homes or apartments throughout the community, to provide the support that adults with disabilities need in order to continue living independently. TRAIL staff members work individually with residents on continuing skill development in cooking, housekeeping, and money management, as well as on positive lifestyle choices such as healthy menu planning, regular exercise, and active participation in community events. TRAIL staff also monitors and gives out medications and provides transportation to doctors and dentists appointments when necessary.
