This year's 2020 Advocacy Day & Rally has been announced! Join social workers and social work students from across the state for a morning of lobbying in the state capitol.

NASW-Michigan invites you to participate in our Capitol Action Day during Social Work Month

Date: March 19, 2020

Location: 201 Townsend St, Binsfield Office-Room 500 - Lansing, MI 48933

Tenative Agenda: TBA - Closer to event date - dependent on meeting times with legislators

Registration Cost: NASW Member Cost: $50 (2.0 CEs).

Registration Deadline: March 7th

Capitol Action Day will give social workers hands-on experience in the legislative process. Participants will learn about legislative advocacy and will talk directly to state legislators about 2-3 relevant policy issues and the importance of social work.

The goal will be to raise legislators’ awareness about the social work profession, NASW, and the issues we tackle in the field every day.

Any NASW-Michigan members who are interested or experienced in state legislative and policy advocacy are encouraged to attend. Social workers need to have a voice at the policy table and we need YOU to help do that!

Experience is preferred but not required. Non-student participants are expected to have the capacity to serve as role models, mentors, and team leaders for the day (you will be paired with 1-2 students). Everyone will be trained prior to the legislative visits. This will be an extraordinary learning experience for everyone, especially students who are considering policy advocacy as part of their career path.

Interested student members must contact their school dean/director to receive information about attending.

If you will be seeking CEUs for the day or if you have any questions, please contact our Director of Public Policy, Algeria Wilson
