Utilizing Judith Herman's three stages of trauma recovery as a guide, participants will consider ways that they can facilitate the healing process for survivors of traumatic events. The presentation will give a broad overview of several trauma-informed therapy options, as well as steps that participants can incorporate into their own practices to improve the healing experience for their clients.

Utilizing Judith Herman's three stages of trauma recovery as a guide, participants will consider ways that they can facilitate the healing process for survivors of traumatic events. The presentation will give a broad overview of several trauma-informed therapy options, as well as steps that participants can incorporate into their own practices to improve the healing experience for their clients.

 

Learning objectives:

1. Identify the three stages of trauma recovery

2. Learn about several therapy options that are beneficial for trauma survivors

3. Discover ways that you and your agency can become more trauma-informed

 

About the Presenters:

 

Windi Sterling, LMSW

Windi  is a therapist with the Sexual Assault Program at Michigan State University. She obtained her MSW from Michigan State in 2014, and has. 5 years of experience as a therapist and advocate working with trauma survivors, primarily in the area of domestic violence and sexual assault.

 

Ikram Adawe, LMSW, CAADC

Ikram is a therapist with the Sexual Assault Program at Michigan State University. She obtained her MSW from Michigan State in 2010. Her experience includes working with survivors of sexual assault, substance abuse, and working with refugees and immigrants.
