Join us at the NASW Michigan Office in Lansing for a day-long workshop to learn about substance use disorders (SUDs)and how to navigate ethical dilemmas within clinical, community and administrative work.

Join us for a day long workshop about substance use disorders in Michigan. Participants will learn about SUDs, symptoms of intoxication and withdrawal, which tools to use with SUD population, where and how SUD intersects within other systems and fields within social work, and current polices that affect SUD population. In addition, social workers will learn how to navigate ethical dilemmas within clinical, community and administrative work.  

 

6.5 CEs will be awarded to licensed attendees inclusive of 1 Ethics CE. 

 

Learning objectives:

1. Participants will learn mild, moderate and serve substance use disorder symptoms

2. Participants will learn how various systems affect within the substance use population

3. Participants will learn how to better support the overall wellness of individuals within the community

 

This event is $65 for members and $80 for future members

Presenter information:

 

Anna Byberg, LMSW, CAADC

Program Coordinator- Dawn Farm Spera Recovery Center

Anna has worked with Dawn Farm since 2005, initially as a Detox Counselor, later as an Outpatient Therapist, and then as the Project Manager, overseeing accreditation and licensing requirements for all Dawn Farm programs. Anna has been part of the tobacco recovery, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) implementation, Motivational Interviewing, and other staff development teams at Dawn Farm. She presents the monthly Family Education Program, and has presented on topics including tobacco recovery, family interventions, opioid use disorders, building cultures of hope, and the basics of addiction and recovery.

 

Ronnie Tyson, CAACD

Director of Outpatient Services- Odyssey Village

As a faculty member for Western Michigan and Michigan State Universities (2001-20012) he enjoyed exposing students to the realities of diverse practice environments. Ronnie's goal was to exemplify values based leadership and inspire social work practice behaviors which motivate systems change. The combination of these factors initiated a deep passion to create organizational culture which merges the medical and social models of disability with values based leadership during program development into organizational change initiatives. Since 2012, Ronnie has moved into non-profit leadership which allows him to practice values based leadership during organizational change in behavioral health organizations. 

 

Algeria Wilson, BSW

Director of Public Policy- NASW- Michigan

At the NASW, she works to create socially just public policy in alignment with the Code of Ethics and Values of the social work profession, on behalf of 6000+ NASW members and Michiganders. Prior to NASW-MI, Algeria was a restorative justice facilitator in the Lansing School District, and worked on several research and evaluation projects through Michigan State University’s School of Social Work, where she studies Organization and Community Leadership. While attending MSU she was apart of their Advocacy Scholars Program which provided her with effective policy and advocacy training and is certified by University of Connecticut's Nancy M. Humphries Campaign School for Political Social Workers - which teaches social workers to run compelling campaigns.
