This year’s conference will provide social workers with the tools to strengthen their skills in communicating and working effectively with clients, colleagues, other professionals, and policy makers. Over two days, social workers will be able to choose between 40 workshops, network with colleagues, get inspired by two keynote speakers, and celebrate one of the nation’s fastest growing professions. Exhibitor space and sponsorship are also available for agencies wishing to highlight their services

NASW-Michigan is excited to be bringing back our Annual Conference this September, and invites social workers to the Battle Creek VA Medical Center for an important gathering to discuss the future of our field. This year’s conference will provide social workers with the tools to strengthen their skills in communicating and working effectively with clients, colleagues, other professionals, and policy makers. Over two days, social workers will be able to choose between 40 workshops, network with colleagues, get inspired by two keynote speakers, and celebrate one of the nation’s fastest growing professions. Exhibitor space and sponsorship are also available for agencies wishing to highlight their services to a statewide audience. 

 

What: 2019 NASW-Michigan Annual Conference

When: Friday, September 27- Saturday, September 28, 2019, with a pre-conference event on September 26.

Where: Creek VA Medical Center, located at 5500 Armstrong Road, Battle Creek, MI 49037

Who: All Michigan social workers, students, and employers are welcome! The 2 ½ day conference will have something for everyone.

CE Credits: Ethics, pain management, MCBAP, and human trafficking credits will be available

 

 

Keynote Speakers:

 

Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch

Veteran, Author, Motivational Speaker

 

Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch is a renowned, charismatic, passionate and influential speaker with a mission to empower the next generation of leaders. Throughout her career, Consuelo has shared her personal knowledge on becoming an effective leader in today’s global marketplace with hundreds of schools, colleges, universities, corporations, and government institutions both in the U.S. and abroad.

Born and raised along the border in a small barrio in Laredo, Texas, Consuelo Castillo Kickbusch is all too familiar with the challenges of poverty, discrimination and illiteracy. Although she grew up without material wealth, Consuelo was taught by her immigrant parents that she was rich in culture, tradition, values and faith.


Tony Hoffman

Former BMX Pro, U.S. Olympic Coach, Director, Recovering Addict


After paroling prison on December 13, 2008, Tony Hoffman started living out his dream, with his addiction behind him. Tony is a Former BMX Elite Pro and placed 2nd at the 2016 World Championships in Medellin Colombia in the Masters Pro class. He is a 2016 Rio Olympic Games Coach, with Women’s BMX PRO, Brooke Crain, in his lineup. His story is full of redemption as he has seen some of the highest highs, and the lowest lows. Tony is the Founder and Director of The Freewheel Project, a non-profit organization that mentors thousands of youth through action sports: BMX, skateboarding and after-school programs. The Freewheel Project focuses on teaching kids leadership skills, and making healthy life choices, including substance abuse prevention, each year.
