Animal assisted social workers are often aware of the benefits of utilizing their therapy animals in practice, but how do you sell an entire agency on your work? How do you work with an agency to create an opportunity to incorporate AAT while also protecting yourself, your dog, and the agency? And how long does that take? Luckily, there are some concrete steps and methods that I would love to share with you that can guide that process with confidence and intentionality. Join me to learn about completing site and employee assessments, program specific policy, and consent forms that will help you present the benefits and supporting research to your program administration and guiding them through the implementation of animal assisted social work within your agency. Included will be copies of sample assessments, consent forms, and site assessments that you will have access to in support of starting this process yourself.

Learning objectives:

1. Identify and complete necessary steps for program development and implementation.

2. Identify risk factors and hazards of implementation of AASW program within agency; develop  policy to address and mitigate identified factors.

3. Identify ethical concerns to introducing AASW programs into the agency setting and address said concerns in policy development, consent for treatment, trainings, etc.
