Workshop Description

This workshop is an overview of Kintla Yoga Therapy, including theory and practice, implementation style, supportive research, and cloud-based resources for practitioners working in the field of trauma recovery. This workshops is a special event put on by NASW-Michigan Physical and Sexual Violence and Women's Issue Work Group.

 

Kintla Yoga Therapy® is a trauma-informed, evidence-based, yoga therapy designed to empower post-traumatic growth in all trauma survivors, including those suffering the effects of PTSD, C-PTSD, and Secondary Traumatic Stress. It is available for individuals privately by appointment and as a resource for professional mental health care providers, agencies, foundations, universities, hospitals, as well as government and non-government organizations through the Integrative Medicine Division of the Unitus Therapy Intelligence cloud platform.

 

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will gain a cursory understanding of the philosophy, theory, practice, implementation style and research of Kintla Yoga Therapy (KYT).
  2. Participants will be able to identify who may benefit from KYT and they will learn at least one practice tool to implement with survivors.
  3. Participants will gain a basic understanding of Kintla Yoga Therapy programs on the Unitus Therapy Intelligence cloud.

This workshop is free for NASW members, $20 for future members.

 

NASW-Michigan is an approved provider with the Michigan Social Work Continuing Education Collaborative, Provider Number MICEC-0017. This program is approved for 1.5 social work continuing education clock hours.

 

Presenter: Kintla Striker is the CEO of Kintla Yoga, LLC, the creator of the evidence-based Kintla Yoga Therapy, and a program author with Unitus Therapy Intelligence. She is also a research investigator with Michigan State University and has been accepted to present her latest work at the international Movement: Brain, Body, Cognition conference at the Harvard Medical School in July 2018.

 

Kintla is a trauma survivor. She has dedicated over 30 years of her life to studying and understanding how the body, mind and spirit heal from traumatic stress. She started her trauma-informed yoga therapy business in 2009, had research conducted on her methodology by Michigan State University in 2014 and 2016, and has had her private client data collected and analyzed since 2015, all reflecting significant positive outcomes. Her work has included group and private yoga therapy with survivors of combat-related trauma, sexual assault, accidents, natural disasters, forcible displacement (refugees), child abuse and neglect, human trafficking (sex and labor), cancer, domestic violence, chronic illness, and compassion fatigue. Additionally, Kintla has lectured on her work nationally and internationally since 2012.
