A message from Senator Stabenow:

You and I know that mental illness touches every family in some way, and we know the critical importance of making sure our Michigan communities have the resources they need to help everyone living with mental illness.

That’s why I am so pleased to share the news that our state is one step closer to being included in a new eight-state demonstration program to greatly expand quality mental health services. It was just announced that Michigan will receive a $982,373 planning grant to develop and design enhanced community mental health services across Michigan. The plan will offer patients increased services like 24-hour crisis psychiatric care, counseling, and integrated treatments for mental illness.

This first-of-its-kind initiative is based on my bipartisan Excellence in Mental Health Act, which the President signed into law last year, and represents one of the most significant steps forward in community mental health funding in decades.

I will keep you updated on Michigan’s status as the selection process continues. Thank you for your advocacy for mental health services and your continual work to help make sure that illnesses above the neck are treated the same as illnesses below the neck.

Sincerely,

Debbie Stabenow
United States Senator
