Region 2 - Northwestern Lower Michigan
Testifying in Court. 1.5 CEs
May 3, 2016
REGISTRATION: 8:15a-8:30pm. Continental Breakfast
LOCATION: Hagerty Conference Center (715 E Front St, Traverse City, MI 49686)
PRESENTOR: Amanda Steele, Juris Doctor, Masters of Social Work
As a social worker, it is likely that you will be subpoenaed for court. Come to this workshop and learn from Senior Attorney Amanda Steele, MSW who has served as the Probate and Family Court Services since January 2013 after serving as an Assistant Prosecuting Attorney since 1998. Ms. Steele has insights for effective testimony for social workers from her extensive work in Family and Probate Court: child neglect and abuse, delinquency, child support and paternity, allegedly mentally ill, divorces with minor children, and some guardianships of minors. Ms. Steele will prepare attendees for testimony that best reflects the ethical responsibility to your client. Attendees will gain an understanding of the difference between “expert” and “fact” witness, how to address the opposing attorney prior to the hearing, and how to navigate your day in court.
Register by April 27th: www.gvsu.edu/swce
The next Region 2 networking meeting will be on Wednesday, May 25th at 5:30pm. Location will be announced soon.
