Dear NASW-Michigan Member,

We have just returned from another exhilarating trip to Cuba with a group of US social workers and others interested in examining the Cuban social welfare system. As has been the case each time we participate in these trips (7 times now), we are even more energized and enthused about sharing this experience with more people! You are welcome to join us on our spring 2018 trip!

Although the mainstream media often makes travel to Cuba seem difficult, unwise and/or potentially illegal, we want to assure you that trips like ours, which are educational in nature, are licensed, legal and safe. Travel within Cuba is comfortable, stimulating, and provides a way of looking at social organization that is quite different, in many ways, from the United States.  Cuba is a preferred travel destination for most of the rest of the world!

This trip will give you the opportunity to take advantage of the only legal way Americans can get to Cuba. It will also provide you a unique opportunity to explore Cuba’s community-based health and human services system that nurtures and sustains the Cuban people, even in the face of great material deficits.

Universally, past participants have told us that this trip was "eye-opening," “inspiring," broadened their perspective on what is possible in the field of social welfare and, for many, "the Social Welfare in Cuba tour was "life changing.

And this Social Welfare in Cuba trip is offered through various State NASW Chapters for 40 CEU'S.

This link takes you to the webpage for the  April 28 - May 6, 2018 trip which will focus on Havana, primarily, as well as the rural coastal province of Matanzas.
