The Community Development Special Interest Group is the newest addition to the NASW-Michigan Chapter, beginning in January of 2010. The group is comprised of social workers in all fields interested in taking social action to create and support thriving communities within the state. The group is currently in the process of developing a mission statement and goals for the upcoming year. Some issues of interest to the group are:
Homelessness
Unemployment
Food deserts
Resource sustainability/revitalization
Community action
The next meeting will be at the chapter office in Lansing. You may also join by conference call if unable to make the meeting. The group welcomes new members and would like to invite all social workers dedicated to making a positive impact upon Michigan’s communities to join.
